At rest

Concerning the detail work on this painting, the root systems beneath the earth were possibly the most delightful to create. For these, I simply poured watercolor mixes, which were let to travel at which ever direction they chose. After that, the squiggly roots were painted by free hand in a negative fashion. I’m thinking that in many ways the process mirrors the relationship we have to our own roots. What we’re born with and where we come from is not for us to decide, but from that we have the possibility to carve both how our lives can turn out, and most importantly - how we perceive the world around us and what kind of person we want to be.
