In Norse mythology, Freyja Vanadis, goddess of love, war and fertility wore a mighty necklace known as Brisingamen. How she aquired this "jewelry of fire", as the name translates, is controversial. One source says it was given to her after a fight between the gods, another that she recieved it after spending one night each with the dwarves that had created it. The necklace, considered to be the most beautiful in the world continued to play an important role in the stories to come.
